On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, the Ulster County Capital Resource Corporation (UCCRC) unanimously approved a request from Woodland Pond at New Paltz to authorize the issuance and sale of 23 million in tax-exempt revenue bonds for facility improvements and expansion. Woodland Pond at New Paltz is the region’s only not-for-profit continuing care retirement community. Featuring 177 independent living apartments, 30 cottages, 60 enriched housing units, a 40-bed skilled nursing facility, and an outpatient rehabilitation center. Nestled in the heart of the Village of New Paltz, with the stunning Shawangunk Ridge as its backdrop, the 83-acre scenic campus provides residents with comprehensive fitness and wellness services, as well as a diverse array of arts and recreational activities. These amenities, along with its delivery of high-quality care, make Woodland Pond one of the most sought-after retirement centers in the region.
Originally opened in 2009 with support from the UCCRC on the construction of the facility, 16 years later, Woodland Pond is thriving and looking for ways to improve and grow. At the March 26 meeting of the UCCRC, Woodland Pond President and CEO Michelle Gramoglia presented the request, outlining the need for the bond and its intended uses. The bond proceeds will be used to acquire 17 adjacent acres and fund the construction and associated costs of a 22,000-square-foot expansion and improvements to the current site. This addition will enhance Woodland Pond’s wellness, arts, dining, and healthcare amenities. The $23 million investment marks the first step in a planned expansion to meet the growing demand for senior housing. With a lengthy waitlist and increasing need for services, Gramoglia emphasized the importance of increasing capacity.
Beyond its commitment to providing exceptional senior care, Woodland Pond has also delivered on its promise to create local employment opportunities, generating over 200 jobs. For the past three consecutive years, the organization has been recognized and certified as a Great Place to Work. With this expansion, Woodland Pond at New Paltz continues to build on its mission of providing high-quality, person-centered care while fostering economic growth and job creation in the region.
